We are asked about two of those moving parts fairly frequently. It's understandable. They are a bit mysterious, mostly because they both involve movement patterns we don’t often perform in our daily lives.
We've all heard words and phrases like "flexibility," "mobility," and "range-of-motion" when golfers are discussing ways to improve their golf game. While all three of those concepts are slightly different in strict semantic terms, the gist of what they all mean is pretty much the same: the deeper and more fluidly you can move your body, the better you'll probably be able to play golf.
Some people are still of the opinion that golf isn’t really a "sport" sport. That golfers are not athletes. Aside from the Tour, they see people driving around in golf carts, parking next to their ball and swinging a club a few times. Hardly a lot of work, right?
But golf does offer a great opportunity to combine exercise and a hobby into something fun and transformational at the same time.
It's kind of ironic that I'm writing a blog about senior golfers on the week of my birthday. These days, birthdays don't seem to have quite the same excitement as they did when I was eight or nine years old. But getting older doesn't mean your golf game can't get a lot more exciting. Golf fitness isn't just for players on The Tour. These 3 simple golf exercises for seniors will not only help improve your game, but they'll also help prevent injury and have you feeling better both on and off the course.
We're in some interesting times as people. Something bigger than us all has ground life-as-we-knew-it to a halt. Humans, as a species, are a resilient crew, though. If we keep our wits about us and stay smart, we will come out of this in one piece. At some point, we'll get the green light to resume our normal lives again. And when that happens, you'll once again be able to stop worrying about viruses, ventilators, and empty supermarket shelves and get back to worrying about what really matters: your slice, your inability to maintain spine angle, and your lack of mobility through the hips. (After you've disinfected everything you've ever touched, of course.)

I've been in and around the fitness industry for my entire life -- as an athlete, as a coach, as a lecturer. I know that different people learn things and respond to things in different ways. Some people are more apprehensive than others; they need to be steadily pushed to achieve their goals. Some people are more analytical; they need to know the exercise science behind what they're doing -- right down to the cellular level -- before they'll try anything new.
1. Understand the biomechanics of club head speed.
2. Get your lower body activated.
3. Get your upper body in sync.
I'm not going to ask if you're loading properly into your left side or if you're able to comfortably maintain your spine angle or if you're staying connected to the ground throughout your swing. I'm going to ask you a far more simple -- but no less important -- question: Are you having fun?
